This class will teach you how to create beautiful linocuts, an exciting relief technique for printmaking! Local Artist, Anjali Karustis will guide you first in carving linoleum blocks, then in printing multiples of your image on paper.
Sketch a design and learn and how to transfer your sketch to the linoleum.
Get more comfortable with the cutting tools by playing around with different mark-making techniques. Then carve a linoleum printing block with your chosen design.
At the end of class you will apply ink to your block and print multiples of your image on paper! Experiment with black or color inks.
This workshop is 2.5 hours long with a maximum of 8 participants (12 years and older.) All materials provided!

Pine Needle Basketry
Thursday, June 19 (6:30-9:30pm)
These long leaf southern pine needles are foraged locally and dried over several weeks. In this workshop, you will learn how to coil pine needles into a beautiful little basket or bowl using only a needle and waxed thread!
Choose which colors and shape you’d like your basket to be. We will provide green and brown pine needles and a variety of thread colors.
Learn three different stitches, how to begin and finish a basket, and how to form a rounded bowl or vertical cylinder.
Take home your little handmade basket along with instructions and enough materials to finish your piece if it needs more work.
The coiling skills learned in this class can be used to form vessels out of many fibers and materials like fabric, paper or dried grasses. Handmade coil baskets make beautiful trinket dishes and thoughtful gifts!
All materials provided.

Mosaic Keepsakes

In this class, you can create a piece of mosaic art in a frame or keepsake box of your choosing!
Teaching artist, Blair Orndorf, will guide you through a unique method of mosaic design where the grout is laid before placing the pieces, allowing for a wider array of pieces to be used.
You will be provided a large selection of objects, including ceramic pieces, shells, sea glass, and pendants. Make your mosaic in a cigar box or a hangable frame.
You are also welcome to bring your own personal artifacts to incorporate into your artwork. Through the process of selecting and arranging mosaic pieces, we can symbolically represent our experiences, emotions, and memories.

This workshop will provide guidance on how to make cyanotypes or "sun prints". Cyanotype is a form of camera-less photography that can be done with non-toxic, easily accessed materials, using sunlight to expose an image.
We'll play with shapes and transparency to create a unique print in deep shades of blue. Instructor, Lauren Fiasconaro will help you to avoid any pitfalls that may impede the development of your image.
Feel free to bring a small, flat object with an interesting shape to try printing with. Flowers, leaves or other plant matter work great! Otherwise, all materials will be provided. This workshop is 1.5 hours long with a maximum of 8 participants (12 years and older).

Mosaic Keepsakes

In this class, you can create a one-of-a-kind piece of mosaic art from a variety of knick-knacks and air-dry clay!

Intro to Mindful Weaving

Woven Stories: An Intro to Mindful Weaving
Join Linda Ruggiero for an evening of mindful weaving! In this 3-hour workshop you will learn the basics of hand weaving and will get to create a unique wall hanging to take home. We will begin class with an introduction to weaving on a frame loom, and students will learn the skills of warping the loom and weaving the basic stitch: plain weave. Once comfortable with these techniques, each student will be asked to consider a story or memory in their personal life that they would like to represent in their textile. Using color cards and color psychology theory, students will choose fabrics, yarn, and threads that represent elements of their stories to create their own personalized weavings.
No experience needed; all materials provided. If you have your own fabric or yarn scraps that you would like to use, please feel free to bring them.

Altered Book Making

Altered Book Making gives new life to damaged or outdated books by using them as a canvas for creative expression. In this class, we’ll learn how to make an art journal from an old book!
Get inspired by the words and phrases on the pages as you create blackout poetry, layer other images, paint or stamps on the pages for collages, and make pockets or niches in your journal.
Instructor, Ingrid Spangler, will demonstrate how to incorporate found objects, mementos and even artwork on other media into your own personal journal.
Books and materials provided but we invite you to bring in any favorite scrap materials or found objects you may have. We’ll provide some rescued books to work with, but if you have an old hardcover book you’d like to use, please bring it along! We will even talk about what to do with the pages from the books we don’t use.

Recycled Paper Making

Create 10-15 pages of your own handmade recycled paper! Shred and blend old paper with water to create a pulpy paper slurry. Learn to use a Mould & Deckle to form new sheets of handmade paper.
Experiment with making white writing pages, colorful card stock, and flower petal or fern paper.
2 hours long with a maximum of 4 participants. (12 years and older)
All materials provided.
*Finished paper will be dried and pressed in-house and sent via USPS mail to participants within one week of the workshop.
