Altered Book Making

  • Pulpery 56 North 3rd Street Philadelphia, PA, 19106 United States (map)
$60.00

Saturday, April 27 , ( 1-3pm )

Altered Book Making gives new life to damaged or outdated books by using them as a canvas for creative expression.

In this workshop, art therapist Mikayla Voller, will introduce you to the art form of altered book making as well as the benefits of using art for self care. She will demonstrate a variety of techniques including collage, blackout poetry, paper cutting and weaving.

The various words and illustrations found on selected pages will serve as a source of inspiration as you stamp, paint, and draw over them, gluing together pages and turning the book into a personalized art journal.

Beginner friendly- the focus is on expression over perfection. Mikayla will happily guide you in using tools and materials as well as in generating ideas and themes for pages.

Books and materials provided but we invite you to bring in any favorite scrap materials or found objects you may have. We found our gently used books from free giveaway book piles across the city. You may use book you already have.

For those who are interested, we will also explore how this process can be used as a mode of self care in the form of an art journal.

This workshop will be facilitated by Mikayla Voller, MA, ATR-BC, LCAT, a board certified art therapist. The basic idea behind art therapy, is that art can help us better understand ourselves, our experiences, and our emotions. To learn more about art therapy, please visit: AATA.org or ask Mikayla about it during the workshop! This workshop is not considered art therapy.
